Oz è un musicista che frequenta con gli altri protagonisti della serie il liceo di Sunnydale e si innamora di Willow la migliore amica di Buffy la cacciatrice di vampiri. Oz, dopo essere stato morso da un suo cugino si accorge di essere cambiato. E' diventato un licantropo e inizialmente teme che la cacciatrice lo uccida, i suoi amici invece lo aiuteranno rinchiudendolo nelle notti di luna piena e Oz diverrà un membro del gruppo di studenti amici della cacciatrice che la aiuteranno a sconfiggere il male. Alla fine però Oz capirà di conoscere poco il lupo che è in lui e deciderà di abbandonare la scuola, la città e Willow per andare alla ricerca di risposte. Il personaggio di Oz compare anche nel terzo episodio della prima stagione della serie tv Angel (Spin - off di Buffy).

Seth è cresciuto ad Overbrook Park, la sua città natale, assieme ai genitori: il padre Herb, insegnante di matematica e la madre Barbara, un'artista. A soli sei anni, debutta nella commedia scolastica "Hello Dolly" ed è proprio in quel momento che il piccolo Seth, capisce che vuole intraprendere la carriera di attore. Quattro anni più tardi, questo ambizioso ragazzino di provincia, vede il suo sogno realizzarsi; infatti, viene scelto per recitare affianco a Jodie Foster nel film Hotel New Hampshire. Nel 1987, arriva il suo primo ruolo importante nella commedia di Woody Allen Radio Days. In seguito Seth, girerà numerosi lungometraggi come  Ho sposato un’aliena con  Dan  Aykroyd e Kim Basinger, la trilogia di Austin Powers, sino ad arrivare al più recente The Italian Job ,dove interpreta, accanto ad Edward Norton, un eccentrico criminale mago del computer. L'attore, che nel tempo libero ama giocare a biliardo, possiede, assieme ai suoi due amici Meyer Beckin e Ryan Phillippe, una casa di produzione: la Lucid Films.
